Memory of Piano

Installation (2017)

Each piano embodies uniquely inscribed memories through the craftsman's hands. How may we awaken the slumbering remembrance within? When memory exists neither as purely dynamic flow nor absolute static fragment — as Aby Warburg proclaims: "Matter is a condensed temporal vessel; memory reconstructs the past through eternal oscillation" (Warburg, Der Bilderatlas MNEMOSYNE, 1927) — this artwork congeals the process of piano deconstruction (or synthesis) into an archaeological section of memory: imploded hammer assemblies, hovering resonators and interlaced string grids manifest within a static field the intrinsic stratification (Schichtung) and bidirectional tension of remembrance — simultaneously a fragmented past collapsing into shards and a prophecy reassembling the future.
